Women Welfare Activities of CARE T

1. Tsunami rehabilitation & coastal women support (2005-2011)

Following the 2004 tsunami disaster, CARE T stepped in to assist highly vulnerable fisherwomen, windows, and single mothers in coastal districts like Kanyakumari, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Thanjavur.

Housing & Relief: Helped 2,471 fisherwomen acquire homes and secured government social welfare benefits for 2,628 women.

Legal Compensation: Processed claims for 13 windows to receive compensation for the loss of their husbands at sea.

Asset Mobilisation: Provided equipment like ice boxes and vessels to 666 fish vendors to support their trade.

Financial Inclusion: Disbursed micro-grants to 2,617 women and trained 1,207 women in banking, financial literacy, and nutrition.

Legal & Safety Training: Achieved a documented positive social impact among 5,32o coastal women.

2. Education support for adolescent girls in Industrial areas of Tamil Nadu

To reduce under-age employment and high school dropout rates among girls in the industrial hubs in Coimbatore, Tirupur and neighbouring Districts in Tamil Nadu.

Psycho-Social Care: Provided counselling to 30,181 adolescent girls and young women to facilitate school re-encounter and higher education.

Vocational Training: Graduated 8,895 young women with guaranteed job placements in tailoring, fashion designing, computer applications, allied nursing, salon operations, and commercial light vehicle driving.

Human Resource Development: Educated 2,573 marginalized girls in specialized HR and personal development skill sets.

Family Poverty Alleviation: Linked 19,278 vulnerable families to state poverty alleviation and welfare schemes.

3. Gender education in working environment and remedial measures

CARE T operates at the factory and community level to improve structural safety, compliance, and workplace environment for female employees.
